Understanding SEO means understanding what it is and how it
works. One must know the basics in order to come up with a better strategy to
be used for the website.
Whenever my friends ask me, what is your work? I replied I’m
an SEO Specialist, they often replied; “Cool!” What do you exactly do? “I do on-page and off-page seo for a client’s website so its keywords would appear on the SERP,
so i must build backlinks for that site to gain some authority and PR”, Then they reply; “ok, sounds greek to me”.
That’s why I have made this article in order for others to make this as a
reference for some of the most commonly used words/phrase in SEO.
SEO
SEO or search engine optimization is the process of making a
website appears higher on search engine results for a certain keywords or
phrases. SEO are divided into two parts On-page and Off-page SEO.
On-page SEO
On-page seo or on-site seo is the process of tweaking your
website for a better search engine results. It involves proper keyword
research, title tags, description and meta tags to describe what you are trying
to offer to the readers or visitors of your website.
Off-page SEO
Off-page seo or off-site seo is the process of building
backlinks to further enhance your website’s search engine visibility, authority
and page rank.
Keywords
Keywords are words or group of words that best describes the
website or a certain page.
Backlinks
Backlinks are links that comes from other related websites
which directs to your site. Building as many links on related sites helps make
a website rank faster on search engine results. Some examples of building
backlinks are: social bookmarking, blog commenting, article submission and
directory submission.
SERP
SERP or search engine results page is a page where the
search engine would direct you if you search for a certain keywords or terms.
Anchor Text
Anchor Text is a word in an article or webpage that can be
click, which directs you to a different website or webpage. Anchor texts are
can easily be seen in any website or webpage, they are those words that often
underlined or blue in color.
PR
PR or Page Rank is the rank of a certain page base on its
relevance, user participation or popularity. It is scaled from 1-10 which 10
being the highest. Some high PR sites include: Twitter which is PR 10, Facebook
which is PR 9 and Tumblr which is PR 8.
