Common Mistakes

Search Engine Optimization or commonly known as SEO is not as easy as everyone thinks. This field of internet marketing is a complex and very delicate part.

In order for your site to be deemed as a successful one, it should have appeared on page 1 of the three major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing).  Ranking comes with traffic and with traffic comes sales thus creating revenue for your business. It is crucial that you must aim for that page 1 ranking or rather the number 1 spot on your keyword of choice. But as I have mentioned earlier, it is not a “walk in the park” so to speak. There are certain factors that a webmaster or a SEO specialist must keep in mind to make that possible. Listed below are some common mistakes that some webmaster should avoid:

Keyword Density
Though it is not that much important nowadays as compared to the early days of search engine optimization, but It would surely make your webpage or website a professional one. No user or visitor would be happy seeing same keywords or phrase every sentence. Most users would be annoyed and instead of reading the whole article they would definitely close the page or navigate to other website. If this happens, your bounce rate goes up and you will lose a prospective client/customer if your website is offering a service or product. Keyword density is the percentage of times a certain keyword or key phrases have appeared or being used in the webpage. A total of 1-3% is deemed normal and beyond that is called “keyword stuffing” which I will be talking later.

Keyword Stuffing
The excessive use of keyword or keywords best describes what keyword stuffing is. In the past where Google is not the dominant search engine on the web, this kind of practice makes a website rank fast. Webmasters use to overload the meta tags or the content of their choice keywords for a faster search engine visibility. But that was before; since Google arrives it is changing the search engine optimization bit by bit and considers unethical methods or practice to be one of the determining factors to for a website to be penalized.

Using Irrelevant Keywords
Why would you choose a keyword that does not describe your products or service?! It is simply self-explanatory, that is why keyword research is the first thing you must do if you are planning to have a website. You must choose the keywords that are appropriate on what you are offering. By doing so, visitors won’t be annoyed if they search for a certain keyword and the results that they get are not relevant to what they are looking for.
